About A Day in Nature
Colin Sloan, a trained naturalist, has operated A Day in Nature since 1985, guiding visitors and Bay Area residents year-round to nature sites, 30 minutes to 1 hour from downtown San Francisco. Learn fascinating details of Northern California's natural history by spotting rocks, birds, flowers, trees, etc., with Colin.
Half-Day Tours: 9 am & 2 pm, daily
All-Day Tours: 9 am to 5 pm
Convenient, front-door pickup from downtown San Francisco hotels and nearby neighborhoods.
Tours run in a sport utility vehicle. Binoculars, water & light refreshments supplied on the tour. Extra jackets, parkas, rain gear & hats available on the tour. Tours are never strenuous unless you insist!

Muir Woods
30 minutes from downtown San Francisco, explore plants and animals of the magnificent redwood forest in Muir Woods National Monument (back to top).
Marin Headlands
Discover the California marine environment in this international biosphere reserve from tide pool creatures to marine mammals to shore birds. Visit seals, sea lions and otters at the Marine Mammal Center. Nearby trails open up the Coastal Range (mountains) to a drier habitat of bobcats, fence lizards and hawks. Explore hands-on exhibits for kids of all ages at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Visitor Center.

Napa Valley Wineries
1 hour from downtown San Francisco. Get an insider's knowledge of viticulture, Napa Valley history and the taste of fine wine.
